Nutmeg Weimaraner Rescue

Referral Procedure & Policies

If you are looking for a good home for your Weimaraner, we may be able to help. (Unfortunately if your dog has bitten a person, we will not be able to place your dog through Rescue.) The people on our adoption waiting lists have been prescreened through an adoption application process. We often do not meet them in person, but we talk on the phone and have them fill out a very informative application before we put them on the list to adopt a Weimaraner.

Please fill out the referral form and return it to Nutmeg Weimaraner Rescue. We will contact people on our adoption waiting list and put them in touch with you (if they seem like they may be a good fit for your dog). You are under no obligation to send your Weimaraner home with the first people you meet, if they don’t seem like a good match. Rescue will send other people on the waiting list, just call and let us know. If you feel that these people are a good home for your dog, you can either send your dog with them at that time, or make arrangements for a later date. Don’t forget to provide health information such as shot records and heartworm medication history. Also, let the new owner know what your dog is eating, how much and how often.

There is a referral fee of $50.00 for us to assist you in placing your dog. Please make out the check to Nutmeg Weimaraner Club Rescue.

Please contact Rescue to let us know if your dog has been placed, or if you have changed your mind. Rescue also asks for a donation from the people adopting your dog to help cover our expenses. However, if you have a crate that you want to send with your dog, it is your option to ask the people adopting to pay for the crate if they want it. If your dog is adopted by someone we have referred, Rescue guarantees to take the dog back if the new owners are unable to keep the dog in the future.

We require that all dogs we accept into our rescue program be neutered or spayed and that they have their shots current. If your dog is still intact, please neuter or spay it and if it is a financial hardship the Nutmeg Weimaraner Club will reimburse you.

Please send a photograph or two of your dog along with the completed form. It will help us to publicize him.
