Thank you for inquiring about adopting a Weimaraner from the Rescue Program. We occasionally have dogs available and if you can provide that special kind of home that these dogs deserve, we should be able to provide you with a dog that will be a wonderful addition to your family.
The Weimaraner is a medium sized gray dog with a short sleek coat. They range between 22-28 inches at the shoulder, weighing between 50 and 90 lbs. They were bred for hunting and although they can make a great house pet, they are not for everyone. They require exercise and training. Weimaraners can be destructive to both house and yard unless properly supervised. Rescue Weimaraners are usually at least 6 months old with the majority being greater than 1 year old. They are often in need of a new home because their previous owners were unable to commit the necessary amount of time to training, exercise, feeding and proper vet care that they so truly deserve.
The procedure for adopting a dog is as follows:
You will receive a call when a suitable dog is available, at which time a meeting will be arranged directly through rescue or through a referral to the current owner.
After visiting the dog, you should decide if this is the dog for you. If you decide to adopt, contact the Rescue Committee to make the arrangements. If not, you should also contact Rescue so that your application will be kept on file. You will be contacted when another dog becomes available. If you adopt or purchase a dog elsewhere, please let us know so we can remove your name from the list.
We attempt to neuter/spay all dogs prior to placement and these costs are included in the adoption fee.
We are volunteers whose only reward is seeing these dogs placed in the right homes and given a second chance at a happy life. If you are patient with our process, we will try to provide you with a devoted loving Weimaraner as a companion.

Terms of Adoption
FEE: The only fee involved is to help cover the Rescue expenses. The non-profit fee is $175*. The Rescue dog will have been neutered or spayed, and have had all necessary innoculations if possible.
AKC PAPERS: If papers are available for the Rescue dog, they will be given to the new owner once the dog has been spayed or neutered, and it has been determined that the adoption has been a success.
TAGGING, TATTOOING: All Rescue dogs should wear an ID Tag. We also recommend that you have your dog tattooed or microchipped for positive identification.
RETURN POLICY: If the adopting person(s) is not satisfied with the Rescue dog, then the dog must be returned to the NWC, and the adoption fee will be returned on a pro-rated basis.
RELEASE FORM: The adoptive owner must sign a legal release protecting themselves, the Nutmeg Weimaraner Rescue and the Rescue dog.
LICENSE: The Rescue Dog must be licensed and maintained in accordance with the existing laws in your town and RABIES vaccine must be kept current.
We recommend that you follow a regular innoculation program as established by your veterinarian. Your Rescue dog will have received his/her innoculations including Parvo, Distemper, Canine Cough and Rabies, but annual boosters must be given. For the safety of your dog, heartworm preventative must be given as directed by your veterinarian, but only after the dog has been tested (annually).
